Coffee and Your Health

What are the health effects of coffee? Can it cause me to get a disease someday? Are there health risks associated with drinking coffee? If you have ever asked any of these questions, read on. You may be surprised that the health benefits of coffee actually outweigh the health risks.

Disease

With the adverse amount of anti-coffee information that flows through the media, it can be difficult to believe that coffee can actually prevent disease. But this is absolutely true. Parkinsons Disease, Endometrial Cancer, Colon cancer-the list could go on and on. The aforementioned diseases and many others can all help reduce the risk of your contracting one of these debilitating diseases.

If you research the ingredients of many pain relievers, you will notice that they contain caffeine. In fact, a dose of pain reliever holds approximately 120 milligrams of caffeine. This is the same amount of caffeine you consume when you sip that cup of coffee in the morning. For this reason, coffee is often associated with being able to help relieve headaches. Also, it has been known to help control asthma by way of stimulation of the nervous system and brain.

Boost Your Workout

Sometimes you are just not able to get the amount of sleep that you would have preferred. Maybe you are feeling just a little groggy and out of energy, but you still want to get through your workout for the day. When you are trying to get into a normal exercise routine, the last thing you want to do is fall off the wagon just because you lost an hour or two of sleep. Why not perk up with a nice hot Cup O’ Joe at the best coffee shop in Ohio?

By getting a little caffeine in your system, your brain will be stimulated enough to help you be able to perform the way you want to. As long as you keep your doses moderate, most doctors agree that drinking two or even three cups of coffee or tea in the morning will help you burn more calories in your workout. This is because it causes your heart to beat faster and pump more oxygen to your blood at a faster rate. Not to mention it gives you more energy to put in another ten minutes of exercise!

Myths and Truths

Myth: Caffeine Can Increase Your Risk of Contracting Heart Disease

It seems that way, since caffeine can affect your heart. Abnormally large amounts of caffeine can cause your heart to race and make you sweat. But if you control your intake of coffee or caffeine products, your Cup O’ Joe will not cause your arteries to clog or your cholesterol level to increase. Only unfiltered coffee, such that is drunk in some Scandinavian countries, can help raise cholesterol. This is because the oils that are normally filtered out of the coffee bean are still present.

Myth: Women who are Pregnant Should Not Drink Coffee

Studies have shown that although alcohol can cause harm to a child, a pregnant woman who drinks a moderate amount of coffee should not worry about the health risks of caffeine to her child. As long as a woman limits her intake of caffeine, there should be no problem.

Drink to Your Health

Although you should limit your intake of caffeine and not be over indulgent, there is no problem with drinking two or three cups of coffee in the morning. Coffee can actually improve your health, so drop by our coffee shop in Columbus and try a mug today!

What is Endometrial Cancer?

How do coffee and endometrial cancer relate to each other? In more ways than one, apparently. According to a recent scientific study in Sweden, coffee may play a part in the body’s ability to fight this disease, also known as uterine cancer. By drinking at least 2 cups of coffee each day, you could lower your risk of contracting the sickness that causes health problems for many.

Every year, approximately 35, 000 women in the United States alone are diagnosed with the endometrial cancer. When the uterus lining, or endometrium, becomes malignant, a hysterectomy is usually required. This is the most drastic but sometimes the only therapy available for a woman who has contracted the cancer. When a woman gets a hysterectomy, the uterus is removed, and childbearing is impossible. Unfortunately, endometrial cancer is the third most common cancer among women.

How Coffee Can Help

Endometrial Cancer occurs when the levels of your blood sugar, estrogen, or fat cells are irregular. Interestingly enough, these factors are directly related to the effects of coffee consumption. Because the ingredients in coffee beans, espresso coffee, and cappuccino coffee impact the body in this way, it could be possible that coffee beans and health go hand in hand. Women who struggle with weight are at a higher risk, and coffee is even more beneficial for them. When you are overweight, your insulin and estrogen levels increase, making you more at risk for the cancer. When the levels of insulin and estrogen have reduced circulation, (which is what occurs when you drink coffee) the body is less apt to contract endometrial cancer.

Stay Healthy with Coffee

Is coffee harmful? Any food or drink that is consumed in excessive amounts can be harmful, but drinking an average amount of coffee can actually be good for you. Not only does it help women’s bodies fight against endometrial cancer, but it is also a healthy choice in regards to your metabolism. Increasing your alertness and energy, coffee can actually help you lose weight. The benefits of coffee undeniably outweigh the risks.

Cup O’ Joe is the finest coffee shops you will find in Ohio. Not only do we serve coffee, but also a whole line of breakfast and dessert essentials.

Health Benefits of Drinking Coffee Increase

The health benefits of coffee and tea are a topic that researchers and health enthusiasts may never agree upon. There is a plethora of information and studies that circulate the internet and health magazines, all trying to prove one point: whether or not drinking coffee can actually improve your health.

Is Coffee Harmful?

The truth is, a trip to the coffee shop can be one of the most beneficial things you do for your body. We all know that coffee contains a drug: caffeine. Caffeine is known to perk you up in the morning and heighten your awareness, and can be taken in beverages such as coffee, tea, and energy drinks.

Having two or three cups of coffee, depending on your tolerance, will help keep you awake and alert. When you have that test to take or that meeting to attend, coffee will make you that much more alert and boost your brain activity, a must for school and work.

Benefits of Coffee

One of the most surprising health benefits of coffee is its ability to help your body ward off diseases. Women especially can benefit from drinking a couple cups of java. Women who drink at least four cups of coffee daily are at a decreased risk of contracting type 2 diabetes. Endometrial Cancer can be avoided by drinking coffee as well.

Caffeine health is not a benefit that is for women exclusively. Both men and women can benefit from drinking coffee. The risk of contracting diseases such as colon cancer, cirrhosis of the liver, and gall stones is decreased by including coffee consumption as part of your daily breakfast routine.

Aside from disease prevention, coffee will help boost your metabolism for the day and increase the vigor of your workout. Although some consider coffee to have high calories, the extra energy boost it gives you will help you burn more during your workout.

Healthy Coffee Amounts

Although it will not hurt you to drink coffee late in the day, drinking coffee in the morning is the most beneficial for your health. It will increase your brain activity for the rest of the day and up your metabolism, making it easier to burn calories.

Like any drug, caffeine is not something you should consume in large amounts. You should know how your body tolerates caffeine, and listen to the warning signs when you think you have had more than you can handle. More than four cups in one day may be too much, depending on your body weight. Nevertheless, studies have shown that drinking coffee IS beneficial to your health, and its benefits outweigh the risks! With our twenty years of experience, you know that Cup O’ Joe will help you start your day right…and healthy!

Tea in general is notorious for having high levels of antioxidants, which are measured by the Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, also known as the ORAC.Green tea in particular has an especially high ORAC, which provides several advantages for your health, such as the following:

Lowers the risk of some cancers

Herbal/Leaf Tea

Herbal teas are usually made from various herbs, flowers, leaves and spices. Chamomile is one of the most popular types of herbal teas with a sedative component, often used to help induce sleep. Drinking herbal tea can also be useful if you are suffering from cold or flu-like symptoms such as a sore throat, aches, cough and dizziness. In fact, many people choose to go to tea shops that sell herbal remedies rather than opting for over-the-counter drugs.

Black Tea

This type of tea is very popular in the Western world with flavors ranging from flowery and fruity mixes to spicy and nutty seasonings that can be taken with pure or white milk, as well as sugar or honey. Black tea is also known to reduce the risk of stroke and prevent artery damage. Additionally, it helps to fight mouth bacteria and cavities, while preventing gum disease and plaque build-up.

Organic Tea

Originating from India, Chai is a blend of spices brewed with organic tea that has become increasingly popular in the United States. This organic beverage is an integral part of the Indian life style and culture. Chai, which simply translates to “tea” in the Hindi language, can be described as a low moisture-based black tea that is hand blended with organic spices, including ginger, cloves, cardamom and cinnamon. The end result is typically a strong, malty and enjoyably spicy brew.

I have a tendency to favor the underdog, but in this case it is justified. Cup O' Joe puts Starbucks to shame. After hearing that Starbucks has systematically positioned it's stores with-in a block of locally owned coffee shops, I was disgusted. Cup O' Joe has nothing to worry about. The customer service is genuine and noteworthy. The coffee tasted fresh and clean, unlike Starbucks over roasted burnt flavor. Hang in there Cup O' Joe!

jvb1971
